Steve Owen Owner/Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer steve@bosmarenkes.com

Steve was born and raised in Abingdon. Steve resides in Fulton, IL with his wife, Liza, and two sons, Reed and Max. He graduated from Abingdon, IL High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and in Environmental Science from Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL. He later received his Associates Degree in Mortuary Science from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL. In 2018, he and his wife purchased Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes from Jim and LuAnne Bosma.

 

In addition to being an on the go dad, Steve is active in the community and currently serves on board for the River Bend Educational Foundation and is a member of the River Bend Athletic Boosters.  He stays busy attending school, sporting and family functions and has been active in helping coach his sons baseball and basketball teams.  He also enjoys woodworking, DIY projects around the home and any type of outdoor activity such as fishing, canoeing, camping, and hiking. 

 

He is proud and honored to continue the tradition of providing the community members in Fulton, Morrison, Prophetstown and other local areas the personal, compassionate, and caring service they deserve.

Chelsea is a native of Morrison, graduating from Morrison High School. In 2008 she received an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL. Chelsea completed her practicum and internship with the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, and was then employed here for nine years. After taking a five year hiatus from the funeral industry, in March of 2020 she rejoined the staff to work again at the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home as a licensed funeral director. She is welcomed back for her experience and the excellent care she extends to the families we serve.

 

In her free time Chelsea enjoys camping and boating with her boyfriend.

Lacey is a native of Morrison, IL. She now makes her home in Prophetstown, IL, with her husband, Lucas and stepson, Braxton.  She is also a dog mom to three cocker spaniels, Charlie, Clyde & Cleo.

 

Lacey attended Morrison grade schools and was a 2012 graduate of Morrison High School. In 2016 she received an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL. She completed her training with a year-long internship at the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes, and in 2017 she received her funeral director’s license. In her spare time she is updating and remodeling a new home that she purchased.

 

Lacey is gifted with a bright personality and outlook on life, and brings an atmosphere of assurance and support for our client families.

Cindy grew up in Davenport, IA and is a graduate of Central High School. She attended Scott Community College in Bettendorf, IA, and was certified as a medical laboratory technician. After working for 15 years as a licensed day care provider, she returned to Scott Community College and received her Associates Degree in Information Technology. She started with the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in 1998, and works in the business office. 

 

Cindy enjoys using her artistic talents at work with the custom printed material and helping families select and design cemetery monuments. She enjoys traveling, meeting new people and spending time with her six grandsons.

Liza was born and raised in Abingdon, IL. After graduating from Abingdon High School in Abingdon, IL, she attended Carl Sandburg College and graduated from Illinois State University in 1998, with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.  She is a registered Illinois Insurance Producer.  She married Steve in 1998 and they began their journey into the funeral industry in the summer of 2004. In 2018, she and Steve purchased Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes from Jim and LuAnne Bosma. At that time, she was working as a Client Service Representative for First Wealth Financial Group; she joined the staff of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes in March, 2021.

Liza and Steve have two sons, Reed and Max.  Liza stays busy attending school, sporting and family functions and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She enjoys cheering on her sons and their teammates during golf, football, basketball, and baseball seasons. Liza is a member of the River Bend Athletic Boosters – Go Steamers!

 

Liza enjoys developing relationships with everyone she meets and looks forward to extending a warm smile, a hug or a handshake to the families in their time of sadness, helping to make their experience at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home a comforting one.

Dan Buck Funeral Director Assistant

Dan Buck was transplanted to the Bosma-Renkes and Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home team after the acquisition of the Gibson Funeral Home in 2008. Prior to that, he was employed for 34 years with the former Gardner Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL, which then became the Gibson Funeral Home. Dan is a Prophetstown native and graduated from Prophetstown High School. He attended Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL and served in the U.S. Army.

 

He and his wife Karen reside in Prophetstown and have two children and four grandchildren. Dan is an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoys attending the sporting and motorcross events of his grandchildren.

James D. Bosma Former Owner

Jim Bosma is the former owner of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes of Morrison and Fulton, IL and the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home of Prophetstown, IL. He has 40 years of experience as a licensed funeral director in the states of Illinois and Iowa. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Mortuary Science. He has applied hours of study towards an Associates degree in Grief Counseling.

Jim is a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner as designated by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. He holds memberships in the National, Iowa, Mississippi Valley, and Illinois Funeral Directors Associations.

He has served as president of the board of directors of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and has served as a member of the board of directors of the Hospice of the Rock River Valley, Unity Christian School – Fulton, IL, Morrison Chamber of Commerce and the Morrison United Way. He is also a 35 year member and past president of Morrison Lions Club. He is a member of the Morrison Christian Reformed Church where he has served as elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher and superintendent.

Jim and his wife LuAnne reside in Morrison. They have two children, Lisa (Sean) Hanley of Davenport, IA and Brian (Kelly) Bosma of Brownsburg, IN and nine grandchildren. His hobbies include golfing, biking, and sailing.

Lu Anne served as office manager for all 3 chapels for many years until her retirement in August 2021. She is a graduate of Fulton High School and attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.

She is a member of Morrison Christian Reformed Church. She enjoys going to coffee with friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

She and her husband, Jim, have two children, Lisa (Sean) Hanley of Davenport, IA and Brian (Kelly) Bosma of Brownsburg, IN; and nine grandchildren, Ashley, Joe, Sarah, Peyson, Brielle, Benson, and Dawson Hanley; Joshua and Amelia Bosma.

Dan Buck
